About Lonnie

Three years ago, on October 19, 2016, I went to visit a friend in Waco, TX. He had invited me to go fishing that evening. I was an avid bass fisherman and was excited to join him. When I got to his house I was expecting that we would load up and head to the lake. I was a bit surprised when his wife told me to wash up for dinner. Being polite I headed to the restroom all the time thinking we were burning good daylight. After about an hour it dawned on me that I had been duped into going bowfishing (his new favorite sport)! I was not very happy but politely asked if he had a left-handed bow for me to use. He just said I would be fine with a right-handed setup. I was not thrilled! An hour after dark I was on lake Belton trolling along looking for carp and gar. I shot several times (right-handed) and missed. About two hours in, after watching my friend shoot multiple fish, I stuck a small carp. All I can say is that something came over me! I started looking even harder and soon I shot a very small gar. Two fish over four hours and I was HOOKED. I couldn’t wait to go again. The next trip I had my own left-handed bow and I have never looked back.

After years of bass fishing, over the next couple of months, most of my regular fishing equipment had a heavy film of dust over it. I have never experienced any sport that is as thrilling as bowfishing. With bass fishing, I had several rods and was constantly changing baits trying to find what they were eating. With bowfishing, I have one bait, an arrow! If they aren’t biting, I force feed them!!!
